Helping the Homeless – and having a blast!

On April 28th, Friends of Boston’s Homeless will host their annual Beyond Shelter Event at the House of Blues in Boston. This is a wonderful evening with great music and food from many of Boston’s top restaurants. As many of you know, my wife Jamie is the Event Coordinator. As a public service, I’ll list some of the frequently asked questions about the event.

Can I get a free ticket?

No – it’s a friggin charity for Pete’s sake. Tickets cost $100 and the proceeds go to benefit the homeless of Boston who need it more this year than ever. I will, however buy you a drink if you mention this blog post.

What’s it like being married to the Event Coordinator?

Most times of the year, it’s a real treat. April – not so much (just kidding honey). For weeks leading up to the event, Jamie is in a frenzy – think Chinchilla on amphetamines. The event is no more complicated than planning a wedding…with 40 caterers, a few live bands, a silent auction and 1,000 guests. Our home is filled with promotional materials, silent auction items and an ungodly number of boxes containing critical supplies for the event. I’m also mourning the loss of my garage for similar reasons. Our home is truly Beyond (just) Shelter…it’s a warehouse.

Will Tim be drinking again at this year’s event?

Yes (see last question).

What’s in the swag bag? (aka, what is a swag bag?)

A swag bag is the gift bag that you get when you’re leaving – think of it as the Oscar’s gift bags without IRS form 1099. The swag bags contain gift certificates from gemvara, Salon Capri, Common Man, Eastern Standard and Equinox – among others. The swag bag alone is worth the price of admission.

Who is the band?

Mango Blue…take a listen …

Where do I park?

Merideth Management has offered a discounted rate of $10 at the Lansdowne Street Garage – just a few steps from the House of Blues.

Can I start bidding on the silent auction items early – I’ve got money burning a hole in my pocket?

Yes! Click here…
