Cool Startup – Edit an email after you hit ‘send’

I’ve got a dream job – I meet several interesting and innovative emerging growth companies every week. I find fascinating companies and fund the best ideas…and then the entrepreneurs do all the work. The deals on my desk now range from human genome sequencing software to social networking startups. Last week I met with Matt Thazhmon from PowerInbox, a very cool startup that is changing the way that people work in email. Matt was referred to me by the well-connected and super helpful Travis Drouin from MFA. Travis is so well-networked that I was tempted to just use his first name knowing that most people would recognize him…kinda like ‘Cher’ but more business-like and no plastic surgery enhancements…plus he’s a rock star CPA and not an actual rock star. My first impression of PowerInbox was ‘hey that’s a cool app’ but as the conversation progressed, I thought ‘it’s bigger than that.’

Everyone has had the inevitable post-‘send’ trauma of wishing they hadn’t sent an email. You carefully draft an email to a client or co-worker, only to miss some important fact or worse. You could try to ‘recall’ the email but that just shines a blindingly brilliant light on it prompting the reader to methodically parse your email looking for the offending text. Don’t you wish that you could just edit the email and magically make it all better? PowerInbox enables you to do just that – you can edit an email after it’s sent. That’s cool! It’s still in private Alpha so you can’t get it yet but you will soon.

PowerInbox also enables you to interact with social media right in your email. That part is a little tougher to describe but you’ll get the idea by watching the video (link follows). They’ve raised a seed round with Atlas Venture, Longworth and the sage startup advisor, Joe Caruso. They believe it’s a platform that will develop social media apps to work within email. I think they’re right.

Of course I post by email and my first version of the link didn’t work…wish I had PowerInbox…uggh.
