Reclaiming your privacy on Facebook

Facebook’s Opengraph enables apps like Socialcam and Yahoo Reader to share content that you’ve viewed with your friends. I see updates all the time telling me that one of my Facebook friends has read an article or viewed a video. Sometimes it’s helpful …most times it’s creepy. I don’t really want to know when one of my high school friends has viewed a Victoria’s Secret runway video. What’s worse is that if I see an article that actually interests me, I’m forced to install the app before it will let me read the article…thereby perpetuating itself and sharing all of the articles that I read to my friends. Sorry guys but if I want to share an article with friends, I’ll post it myself. I don’t want auto-sharing – I’d like my privacy – even online. Here’s a link to a Chrome extension that enables you to click straight through to the article of interest without having to install the app and enable auto-sharing. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pgkmcdneclgkflnhdeccboiholnedeci/ Facebook just got a little less creepy for me.
